We are the largest (but still small enough to give personal attention) elderlaw firm in the state. We provide legal services to elderly clients and their families. Elder Law is relatively new in the Commonwealth. Perhaps for this reason and a few others, there is a lot of misinformation and surprisingly bad advice that sometimes comes from professionals be they bankers, financial planners, accountants, or –gasp- attorneys when it comes to advising the elderly who might someday need a Nursing Home. This is driven by lack of knowledge of this emerging field. Advice that is often prudent for gift, estate, and tax purposes may be the wrong thing to do for ordinary older folks with non-taxable estates and issues relating to long term care, nursing homes, Medicaid potential, guardianships and tangential matters.
